The Jallianwala Bagh massacre is such an incident of cruelty and inhumanity of the British Empire, talking about which people’s soul still trembles. Indians can never forget this incident. The memory of British oppression will remain in the hearts of Indians for ages. Whenever there is talk of British oppression, veteran lawyer C. Shankaran Nair will definitely be remembered. The trial of C. Sankaran Nair against the British Empire exposed the darkest chapter of the British rule in India to the whole world. Now a biopic is being made on him.
Biopic being made on C. Sankaran Nair
Karan Johar is making a biopic on C. Sankaran Nair, which was announced by the producer in 2021. Akshay Kumar will be seen playing the role of C. Sankaran Nair in the movie. Karan Johar’s C. Sankaran Nair biopic is based on the book ‘The Case That Shook the Empire‘ written by his great-grandson Raghu Palat and his wife Pushpa Palat. The entire process of this case in the British court will be shown in the film.
Film shooting started in Delhi
The shooting of the film is going on in Delhi’s oldest law college. Akshay Kumar was seen shooting inside the college. Akshay Kumar was seen here doing a scene on Nair’s favorite car, a black Bentley. As written in the book ‘The Case That Shook the Empire’, Black Bentley was very dear to Nair. His driver Govindan used to keep it very shiny. The film was shot in June in different parts of Delhi, including the Delhi Durbar at the Red Fort to the Rewari railway station (which has been used as a station in Punjab).
Akshay Kumar and Ananya Pandey shot here at Rewari railway station in early June this year. The shoot went on for two days. A set of a station in Punjab was prepared, in which street vendors selling peanuts were shown roaming around the railway station and many Sikh persons were seen moving here and there at the station. When the train arrives, Akshay Kumar, playing the role of Nair, gets down from it. This scene indicates Nair getting down at the station in Punjab and going to Jallianwala Bagh.
Who was C. Sankaran Nair?
Born in Mankara village in the then Malabar region in 1857, C Sankaran Nair obtained a law degree from the Madras Law College and started practicing in the Madras High Court. In 1907 he became a judge in the Madras High Court. Nair alone fought against the entire British rule in the British court regarding the Jallianwala Bagh massacre case. He shook the British rule with his arguments. Even though Nair lost that case legally, but by exposing the truth of the massacre, he shook the foundation of the British rule. This is the reason why a massacre like Jallianwala Bagh never happened after that. Nair wanted the same. Nair died in Chennai in 1934.
